potential difference = 40 V

work done on proton = q*delta V

= (1.602*10^-19 C)* 40 V

= 6.41*10^-18 J

Now use:

work done = 0.5*m*(vf^2 - vi^2)

6.41*10^-18 = 0.5* 1.673*10^-27 * (vf^2 - (4.00*10^4)^2)
