Question

In the overhead view of the figure, five forces pull on a box of mass m 2.9 kg. The force magnitudes are F1 = 11 N, F2 = 19 N, F3 = 3.3 N, F4 = 16 N, and F5 = 4.5 N, and angle 4 is 349 Find the (a) x-component and (b) y-component of the box's acceleration, and also give the acceleration as (c) a magnitude and (d) an angle relative to the positive direction of the x axis. (Note that the angle will be negative if it is below the horizontal.) (a) Number (b) Number (c) Number Units Units Units (a) Numberunits

Explanation / Answer

Net horizontal componet of force

Fx= 16 cos 34+3.3-11= 5.564 N

ax= 5.564 / 2.9 = 1.92 m/s^2

=========

Net vertical componet of force

Fy= 4.5+16 sin 34-19= 8.947 N

ay= 8.947/2.9= 3.085 m/s^2

=======

Net acceleration

a= sqrt(ax^2+ ay^2)

a= 3.633 m/s^2

========

Direction

Angle= arctan (3.085/1.92)= 58.1

========

Commemt in case any doubt.. good luck
