Question

Homework 4: Projectile Motion PROBLEM1 The fry lands on the A sengull is fying horiaontally at a constant speed of 2.50 m/s when it drops a fry. floor 1.90 seconds later. Just before the fry lands (ignoring air resistance), (a) what is the horizontal component of its velocity? (b) the vertical? (e) how do these quantities change if the seagull's speed is doubled? PROBLEM 2 A cork is launched from a bottle at an angle of 40 above the horizontal. If the cork moves 1.20 m in 1.10 seconds, what was its initial speed?

Explanation / Answer

1. (A) vx = equal to bird's speed = 2.50 m/s

(b) initialy, v0y= 0

vf = vi + a t (in vertical)

vy = 0 + (-9.8 x 1.90) = - 18.6 m/s

(C) horizontal component will also doubled,

vx = 5.00 m/s

but vy and time will remain same.
