How long (in s) does it take for the passenger to get from one end of the sidewalk to the other, that i to cover the 75 m? passenger rushing to catch a plane at the airport walks on a moving sidewalk at a speed of 4.0 km/h reletive to the sidewalk in the direction that the sidewak is moving. The sidewak is 75 m Submit Answer Tries 0/10 How much time does the passenger save by taking the moving sidewalk instead of just walking beside R? Submit Answer Tries 0/10 Through what distance does the passenger walk relative to the moving sidewalk? Submit Answer Tries O/10 If the passenger's stride is 83 cm, how many steps are taken in going from one end of the moving sidewalk to the other? Submit Answer Tries 0/10 Send Feedback This discussion is closed E12Explanation / Answer
1. The net speed of passenger = ( 4+ 1.8) km/hr = 5.8 km/hr
That implies, (5.8x1000)/3600 = 1.61 m/ sec
Time taken to cover 75 m = 75/1.61 = 46.58 seconds
2. If he chooses to walk besides the sidewalk then
(4 x1000)/3600 = 1.11 m / sec
Time taken by him = 75/ 1.11= 67.56 seconds
The amount of time that passenger saved = 67.56 - 46.58 = 20.98 seconds
3. He walks for 46.58 seconds at speed 1.11 m/ sec
46.58 x 1.11 = 51.70 m
4. Number of steps = 51.70 m / 0.83 m per steps = 61. 28 i.e. almost 62 steps.
