Explanation / Answer

10. d) Waterline corrosion

Corrosion due to formation of varying concentrations of the aeration. When a metallic surface is partly in contact of water then the metal below the water line gets corroded. Because the water below the line is poorly oxiginated and acts as anode and at same time the metal above water line is highly oxiginated and acts as cathode.

11. d) Corrosion by other gases

It is also called dry corrosion or chemical corrosion and occurs due to chemical action of atmospheric gases like CO2, SO2 etc.

12. a) Dry Corrosion

Dry corrosion is uniform as it occurs due to the action of atmospheric gases to which the surface is exposed.

13. b) Inter granular corrosion

Corrosion along the grain boundaries is called as the inter granular corrosion and stress corrosion is due to the static tensile strength.

14. d) Both homogeneous and heterogeneous solution

Dry corrosion takes place in the both homogeneous and heterogeneous solutions. The wet corrosion takes place in only heterogeneous processes.
