The solar energy hits the earth and transfers its energy to the surface and heats it.some of the energy is reflected back to the space .depending on the concentration of green house gases or carbondioxide some amount of energy is trapped in the earths atmosphere.if little green house gases are present little amount of energy is trapped and earth cools which is inhospitable for life similarly if more green house gases are in the atmosphere more energy is trapped and earth surface heats up which is again a problem.global warming is a good example to study the the flow of carbon and oxygen through different forms and mechanisms by which energy is transfered to and from different components of system.
