Although there are a multitude of teratogens that affect a developing fetus, I believe that a woman’s diet can have both a positive and negative impact on a baby. Consuming organic foods that have not been treated with hormones and pesticides, or processed with preservatives could prove to be highly beneficial to a developing fetus. Present day there are an incredible number of children that are diagnosed with Autism, Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder, Depression, leukemia, and asthma, to name a few. Some of the previously stated conditions have been said to be a result of vaccines, I however, disagree. I believe that all the chemicals and unnatural ingredients we consume play a much more significant role with fetal development; they could be the cause of asymptomatic conditions presenting themselves at a later developmental period. With that being said I also believe that all the chemicals we touch and breathe, can have a negative effect on the development of a fetus. Side effects of the cleaners, soaps, and aerosol sprays we use daily -without much thought- effect a fetus. I have had three children and I know how difficult it is to avoid all negative factors; I do know it is possible to control what a mother ingests. Being cognoscente of the type of foods a pregnant mother consumes can dramatically affect the health of the baby. Having a healthy, preferably organic/ clean diet, will significantly reduce the number of chemicals being absorbed into the fetus’ bloodstream, as well as the mothers. It is a double bonus. Making a conscious effort to use all natural cleaning products, soaps, and scents such as perfumes and room sprays, will also cut down on the amount of chemicals the soon-to-be mother will encounter. A woman can control the environment in her home and manages her own body, those of which I believe to be the most impactful and easiest to govern.
