Consider the neutral pion decay p0 ? ? + ?. In the p0 rest frame, the photons have equal energies, equal to mpc2/2. Consider a Lorentz frame in which the p0 energy is ep, and in which the photons are emitted symmetrically as shown in the figure.(a) Determine the angle between the photon directions as a function of ep (Hint: This can be trivially done using 4 vectors. Otherwise, you can note that the photon momenta are equal in magnitude but opposite, and perpendicular to the direction of the pion velocity and apply a Lorentz transformation.)
(b) Calculate 2? for ep = 1 GeV and 10 GeV.
