Question:

In a football game a kicker attempts a field goal. The ball remians in contact with the kickers foot for 0.050 s, during which time it experiences an acceleration of 340 m/s^2 The ball is launched at an angle of 51 degrees above ground. Determine the horizontal and vertical components of the launch velocity.

I think this is the answer but could anyone post a drawing to help me understand how we get the 340(cos51) and 340(sin51)? I am failing to understand how this works.

ax=340(cos51) =237.97 m/s^2
ay=340(sin51) =264.23m/s^2
vx=237.97*.050s=11.90 m/s
vy=264.23*0.050s= 13.2 m/s

Explanation / Answer

It's wrong A = 340 m/s^2 t = 0.05 s Vel = 0.05*340 = 17m/sec Horizontal = 17cos51 = 10.7 m/sec Vertical = 17sin51 = 13.21 m/sec
