Question

Figure a below shows two charged particles fixed in place on an x axis with separation L. The ratio q1/q2 of their charge magnitudes is 5.00. Figure b shows the x component Enet,x of their net electric field along the x axis just to the right of particle 2. The x axis scale is set by xs = 36.0 cm. (a) At what value of x > 0 is Enet,x maximum? (b) If particle 2 has charge ?q2 = ?3e, what is the value of that maximum? [Note: L=.247m & Part A=.421m, I just need a step-by-step to get PART B.]

Explanation / Answer

Hey can't see the figure, tried changing proxy a multiple times but still can't see thm :( I will just try to help without the figure..hope i will be helpful :) E= K. q1q2/r^2 Step 1- From the figure check for which value of X the Enet is maximum. Step 2- E= K. q1q2/r^2 ,here we have K=9.9*10^-19 , q2 is given so we can calculate q1 using the given ratio q1/q2 = 5. And for the max. value of Enet calculate 'r' as it is the only unknown. r =sqrt.[K.q1q2/E]
