Question
A ceiling fan is rotating at 0.70 rev/s. When turned off, it slows uniformly to a stop in 15 s. (a) How many revolutions does it make in this time? rev (b) Using the result from part (a), find the number of revolutions the fan must make for its speed to decrease from 0.70 rev/s to 0.35 rev/s. rev I need help with part b. I know how to solve part a, but I cant get the final answer for b maybe because Im using acceleration in revoluions as part of the equation I only have one more try on my online hw please help.Explanation / Answer
(a) distance = avg speed * time = (0.70 / 2) * 15 = 5.25 revolutions
(b) now the time is only 7.5 seconds and avg speed is the avg of 0.70 and 0.35, or
avg speed = 0.525 rev/s
so distance = 0.525 * 7.5 = 3.94 revolutions
