Question

Would anyone help me with this problem for Ecology?

4. Static life tables for consecutive time periods for a population: (a) Calculate static survivorship for time periods. t-1 Static t=2 Static t=3 Static Age (x) at time t 30,000 22,50012,250 9950 1500 125 40,000 14,450 2500 1800 150 57,175 (b) Does this population have stable age distribution? (c) Stationary age distribution? (d) What method can be used to determine (estimate) intrinsic population growth (r)? Do the calculations. (Show your work)

Explanation / Answer

a. Static survivership is calculated as the relative change in the number of individuals of the cohort between two successive cenuses. Ix-Ix-1

here Ix at time (t=2) = 30,000+12000+1800+150 = 43,950

Ix-1 at time (t=1) = 22000+9950+ 1500+125 = 34075

static survivership at t=2 is 43950-34075= 9,875

static survivership at time (t=3)= 57175- 43950= 13225

b. The population has stable age distribution

c. The population is stable because the growth rate and relative age distribution are not changing over time.

d. Intrinsic population growth can be calculated with the formula dN/dt =rN(K-N/K)
