Ecology question Help explain this

Using a specific example explain how these two concepts are related, la your answers you need to demonstrate the mechanisms in which these concepts are involved and how they are similar or different. NOTE: You need to provide the main connection between these concepts, DO NOT JUST provide the definition for each of them. Also find new examples that were not used during lectures. Go to the point and focus on the quality of vour answer, rather than in the length. Dormancy AND Acclimation a. b. Speciation AND Evolution c. Gene flow AND Genetic drift d) Geographic distribution AND Distribution patterns

Explanation / Answer

Dormancy and acclimation: dormancy is a period where there will not be physical activity and growth. There occurs minimum metabolic activities. This process is related to acclimation where plants develop a resistance to super low temperatures in winters. Plants remain hardened or acclimatised until they are in the period of dormancy. As the metabolic processes increase with an increase in temperature, the plants are out of the dormancy period and hardening reduces. Speciation and evolution: speciation is the process where there is splitting of the present populations, in the form of paralytic speciation, Allopatric speciation and sympatric speciation. One of the common ways of this is geographic isolation. When speciation occurs, evolution occurs very rapidly. This is because as the species get separated permanently, they would not be able to exchange genetic material and as a result of this there would be no gene flow. When gene flow between two species is stopped, it automatically results in development of new characters, over the generations, in the older species, depending on the new geographic area they have shifted to. This adaptation results in new species formation. Gene flow and genetic drift: gene flow is where genes would be moving inside a population or out of a population. This might occur as there is exchange of genetic information between two populations. Genetic drift occurs as a result of random sampling, where people from different species would randomly mate. This mating of organism from different populations results in a genetic drift, with a new allele being introduced, followed by its passing on in the further offsprings. Geographic distribution and distribution patterns: distribution patterns are the patterns that are observed in certain surfaces of the earth. Depending on the area, distribution pattern may be defined. Depending upon the climate or the geographic terrain, we could find particular species. If a geographer would recognise the a geographic area, he could recognise the distribution patterns and the type of species that would be found.
