Question
A 4kg ball rolls without slipping with a velocity of 10 m/s on a horizontal table. It collides with a 7 kg ball that is initially at rest . After the collision, the first ball is scattered at a angle of 30 degrees with respect to its initial direction and its final velocity is 5 m/s. a)Calculate the the final velocity and the lab scattering angle of the 7kg mass. b)Calculate the center of mass scattering angle c)Calculate the Q value for the reaction d)Calculate the center of mass velocity and the initial velocitys in the center of mass coordinate system.Explanation / Answer
a)
Momentum conservation in original direction: 4*10 + 7*0 = 4*5Cos30 + 7*vCos
Momentum conservation in normal direction to original direction: 4*5Sin30 = 7*vSin
Solving both these, v = 3.54 m/s and = 23.8 deg
