Question
Three forces act on the wheel shown below, giving it a constant angular acceleration. Model the wheel as two uniform cylinders stuck together. The larger cylinder has a mass of 10 kg with a radius b = 35.0 cm and the smaller one has a mass of 5 kg with radius a = 20.0 cm. Take the rotation to be about the axle through O. If the wheel is initially at rest, determine the angular velocity of the wheel after 5 seconds. Give your answer in radians per second with a positive sign if the angular velocity is pointing out of the page and negative sign if it is into the page
Explanation / Answer
I think we are in the same class at ucsd. #1 is 226. convert to radians/sec for both the initial angular velocity and the angle in radian. Then plug into the formula w^2=w0^2+2*a*angle.
