Question
I need help understanding how the calculate the new volume. A thermodynamic system is operated at a constant pressure of 2ATM. Initially the volume of the system is 1m^3. 500 J of heat is then added and 100 J of heat is stored in the system. How much work is done by the system? What is the new volume of the system? **I found the amount of work done was 400 J, following the formula given by teacher, but I don't have a formula for finding the new volume. Can some one give me the formula? Thank you in advanced!Explanation / Answer
It is an isobaric process.
Thus we have here: Work done = PV
Now since we have Work = 400 J and P = 2 atm = 202650 pascals
Hence we have V = 400/202650
Hence Vfinal - Vinitial = 400/202650
Hence Vfinal = 1 + 400/202650 = 1.00197384653 m3
