Gram positive bacteria appeare in purple clour, it is because they having thick layer of peptidoglycan at outside of their cell membranes so it absorbs the violet dye. On the other hand, Gram negative bacteria will appear a bright pink or red because they have only a thin peptidoglycan layer sandwiched between two lipid layers.
