Sample (3.17)
A small concrete subcontractor keeps track of his resources by creating tables to store information relates to his equipment, labor, material and crew resources. In a separate table, the subcontractor also keeps information related to his frequently used concrete methods, as shown in the figure shown below. This contractor is currently preparing an estimating for a new concrete project in which he has to pour 500 cubic feet of concrete using pumps. A normal work day is 8 hours. The rate for the labor overtime per hour is time and a half (1.5 times normal rate). The crew production during and overtime hour is 90% of their production in a regular hour. If the contractor is free to use either of the 2 methods of construction, Md4 and Md6 calculate the total cost and time required to finish the project in both cases. Solutions: Method Md4: Total Cost: $ Total Time : Method Md6: Total Cost: $ Total Time :Explanation / Answer
C16= 2L1 +3L4 +1E2 + 2E14 = 2*15+3*25 +(40+10) +2*(15+5) = 30+75+50+40=195
C16* 8 hours = 195x8 =1560
Cost per day for Md4 = C16 +M12 =1560+ 17*100 = 1560+1700 =3260
As the per day production of Md4 is 100 units, it takes 5 days to complete the total 500 units.
==> total cost=3260*5 =16300
Per hour production in normal hours = 100/8 =12.5 units
Per hour production in overtime =12.5*0.9 =11.25
per day production in overtime = 11.25*6 =67.5
total production in one day=167.5
total days required =500/167.5 =2.98=3 days
New labour rates = 15*1.5=22.5 and 25*1.5 =37.5
C16 (overtime)= 2L1+3L4+1E2+2E14= 45+112.5+50+40 =247.5
C16*6 hours = 247.5*6= 1485
cost per day for Md4= C16+ c16(overtime) + m12
=1560+1485+17*167.5 = 5892.5
total cost =5892.5*3 = 17677.5
