Question

Shallow Compaction in the field depends on the factors:

- depth of lift/layers

- Intensity of pressure

- area of applied pressure

- number of passes

My question is:

What do they mean by "intensity of pressure" & "area of applied pressure?

Because Pressure = Force on Area, so wouldn't intensity of pressure = force/area/area (doesn't make sense)

& area of applied pressure - if i had a smaller compactor & covered an area with n passes, or a larger compaactor covering the same area in <n passes; why does it matter?

Explanation / Answer

Intensity of pressure here means the magnitude or amount of pressure higher the magnitude of the pressure higher will be the compaction.
Area of pressure applied is actually a misnomer , your doubt is correct , but in the context of the point mentioned it means that is the smaller compactor cover with higher weight will result in higher compaction as compared to larger compactor with same weight.
