Question
The Greeks are often credited with being the first culture to begin thinking about how the natural world works in a "scientific" manor, although the term science did not yet exist. What was it about how the Greeks began to reason about natural phenomena that made their way of thinking different from what had come before them? 1. Deductive reasoning is used in science. However, deductive reasoning is not fool-proof. Why not? Give an example of invalid deductive reasoning other than the one used in the reading. 2. 3. Come up with an example of inductive reasoning. They can be about the natural world or just inferences you make in your daily life. What did science philosopher Karl Popper must be the case if an explanation is to be considered a "scientific" one 4.Explanation / Answer
Humans always observed nature and tried to describe the phenomenon based on it. It were the Greeks who went beyond the description and tried to deduce hypothesis and arrive at reasonable scientific explanation without coorelating it with the Gods and the heavens.
Some of the disadvantages of deductive reasoning are that it is very formal in nature, does not acquire new information, it is circular and non-informative. Example, all mangoes are soldiers and richard is a mango which means richard is a soldier.
An example of inductive reasoning is Richare is an uncle. Richard is bald. Therefore, all uncles are bald.
