Question
Any help with these two problems! I keep getting different answers... Thanks!
Two positive charges, Q1 = 2 times 10-9 C and Q2 = 5 times 10-9 C, are separated by a distance of 10 m. Determine the work required to move a positive charge q = 1 times 10-6 C along a straights line between Q1 and Q2 from a distance of 1 m away from Q1 to a distance of 1 m away from Q2 Answer: 24 times 10-6 J. Two charges, Q1 = 3 times 10-6 C and Q2 = -2 times 10-6 C, are held and seperated by a distance of 6 m. Determine the voltage nu ba between two points along a line between the two charges. Point a is 1 m from Q1, and point b is 2 m from Q2. Answer: -25.65 kV.Explanation / Answer
Please ask if you have any doubt.I will help you.
first problem
E1 = kQ1q/1m + kQ2q/9m = (9*(10^(9))*(2*(10^(-9)))*(10^(-6))) / 1m + (9*(10^(9))*(5*(10^(9)))*(10^(-6))) / 9m
E2 = kQ2q/1m + kQ1q/9m = (9*(10^(9))*(5*(10^(-9)))*(10^(-6))) / 1m + (9*(10^(9))*(2*(10^(9)))*(10^(-6))) / 9m.
E2 - E1 = (45 + 2 - 18 - 5) 10^(-6) joules
= 24 * 10^(-6) Joules
