Question
The problem statement, all variables and given/known dataassume you are taking a trip on a train. you carry a filled suitcase that weighs 170N, and during the course of your trip you are told that the train is moving at 140 km/hr.
(a) what do you observe the kinetic energy of the suitcase to be, before you are told the velocity?
Im not sure about how to go about part a of the question, how would you determine the kinetic energy if no velocity is given? any information would be highly appreciated thank you
Explanation / Answer
Given,
W=170N
v=140 km/hr = (140)*1000 / (60*60) m/s = 38.89 m/s
we know that
W=mg (g=9.8 m/s2)
170=m (9.8)
m=170 /9.8 =14.35 kg
now apply K.E.
K.E= 1/2 mv2 = 1/2 (14.35) (38.89)2 = 10851.70 J
I hope i done fine ...
