B.(1pt) Consider a suspension of isolated intact chloroplasts. Assume that all the needed substrates are available for the reactions and that the amounts of the compounds added are sufficient to have their maximal specifc effect. Each part is done on a separate fresh sample. relative rate of 100% when illuminated. Predict whether the rate of 02 i. DCMU is added. (dichloropheny!- dimethy turea) ii. The uncoupler dinitrophenol is added. ii. Both DCMU and dinitrophenol are added.Explanation / Answer
1) if DCMU is added in such suspension oxygen production becomes lower because DCMU is herbicide and affect photosystem P680 and hampered the transfer of electrons to further electron carrier and that's why oxygen production is slow because oxygen production is depedent on electron defieciency on P680 , so when elctron is accumulated no fruther oxygen production wil takes place.
2) DNP ,to being a uncoupler is only affects the proton gradient and thus the synthesis of ATP production so oxygen synthesis is continoustly going on.
3) DNP and DCMU together slows the oxygen production as described in answer 1.
