Question

Frictionless piston 3000N maintains a gas at constant pressure in a cylinder. The cross sectional area is 52 Cm^2 and the atmospheric pressure acting on this area is 0.1 MPA. A process of occurs in which a paddle wheel transfers 6800Nm of work to the fas, 10 kJ of heat is transferred from tthe gas and the internal energy of the gas decreases by 1kJ. dDetermine the distance (cm) moved by the piston.
The answer is-62.5cm. I use Qin+Win-Qout-Wout=change ininternatl energy. I also found the absolute pressure. I keep getting a wrong answer.
Thanks in advance

Explanation / Answer

Work done by the gas = Work input to the gas - Qout - Change in Internal Energy

= 6800 - 10000 + 1000 = -2200 J

Distance moved by the piston = -Work done/(Weight of the piston+ Pressure force of atmposphere)

= -2200/ (3000+(1*105*52*10-4)) = -0.625 m = -62.5 cm
