Question
Which are the followings are true about Vitamin B1?
A. Lack of it causes neurological diseases
B. Its derivative is involved in the pyruvate to acetyl-CoA reaction
C. Its derivative is involved in the pyruvate to acetaldehyde
D. Its derivative is involved in the alpha-ketoglutarate to succinyl-CoA reaction
multiple answers
Explanation / Answer
Answer - All of the following are true
Vitamin B1 act as coenzyme with TPP. TPP involved in Pyruvate decarboxylase enzyme which convert pyruvate to acetaldehyde. Pyruvate dehydrogenase convert pyruvate to acetyl-CoA where TPP plays important role. Same as in TCA cycle TPP involved in the alpha-ketoglutarate to succinyl-CoA reaction alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase. Also if lack of vitamin B Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome is a nurological disorder.
