Question
I am a Biology major, and have successfully made it two years of college without needing math. I am now in need of this Principles of Physics class, and am already weeded after one week. I try working ahead, but I lack the basic knowledge from trig and algebra (which I took in high school) that are necessary for success in this course. I understand how to do the questions in the book, but when I work through them on my own I don't know where to start. I would really like to give this course a shot, do you have any suggestions?I was thinking about hitting up Barnes and Noble to see about any Math books that could assist me in this course.
Thanks
Explanation / Answer
Back in high school, I had some difficulties too while dealing with physics, especially since i had terrible teachers. From what I can see with your situation, I don't think trig or algebra is what's really giving you trouble, especially since you studied the basics in high school. I'm assuming you're studying a course that doesn't involve any calculus; a course that is usually taught in high school.. did you take any physics back then? The course itself needs a lot of hard work and practice. Unless you work through problems yourself, you won't learn much, and the course will seem tough. Nevertheless, try getting a book or two on basic algebra / trig, or heck, there's a ton of resources on the internet - google is your friend! If I would recommend something online, i would suggest you check it khanacademy.org; it is a site that has a ton of resources on like all basic math classes you'll ever take - it even has physics lessons! Other than that, just keep practicing, and don't forget that you can always ask any question in here. We'll be more than willing to help :) Good luck!
