Question

Here is question #69 from the Giancoli 6th eddition physics textbook.

A basketball leaves a player's hands at a height of 2.10 m above the floor. The basket is 2.60 m above the floor. The player likes to shoot the ball at a 38 degree angle. If the shot is made from a horizontal distance of 11.00 m and must be accurate to +- 0.22 m (horizontally), What is the range of initial speeds allowed to make the basket?

On the answer key on Cramster.com , I am getting very confused with the second step. They have V0T=11/cos38. I do not understand how there can be 2 variables on one side and recieve an answer of 14m. Thanks

Explanation / Answer

range=Vo2*sin(2*38o)/g for the range to be from 10.78 to 11.22 m, the

times are from 10.6453 to 10.4345 s
