Question

Chewbacca (mass = 170 kg) steps into a car of mass 2100 kg, causing it to sink 2.9 cm on its springs. It is a 2 - door car with 6 windows. Assuming no damping, with what frequency will the car and Chewbacca vibrate on the springs?

I have done this problem over and over. basically I did (m*g)/x or 170 x 9.8 / .029 to get the k, spring constant. And then for frequency I did 1/2 *pi * sqrt k/m. Every time I do this, even if I add in the weight of the car I end up getting 2.93 Hz. And my assignment keeps getting kicked back as wrong. What is going on here?!?! help!

Explanation / Answer

179gx0.029=1/2kx0.0292

k=k=121102.76 N/m

s0 frquency=404.54 Hz

here you will take both masses for frequency calculation
