Question
Examine the graph below, which shows growth curves of 4 strains of bacteria grown in the presence of glucose, at normal, atmospheric levels of oxygen. Because C & D both failed to grow under this condition, you repeated the experiment at a very low concentration of oxygen. Under this second condition, A grew very slowly, B grew at the same rate as in the first experiment, C did grow (although fairly slowly) and D still failed to grow at all. 1. Based on the information provided, classify the bacteria represented by curves A, B, C & D by their oxygen requirements. (Match each class of microbe with the letter marking the growth of the bacterium mostly likely to fall into that class.) 0.7 0.07 0 3 6 9 12 15 18 3Time (h) Obligate aerobe obligate anaerobe --Aerotolerant anaerobe Microaerophile (4 points)Explanation / Answer
A- obligate aerobic bacteria that is why they grow very slowly in the small amount of oxygen.
B - They microaerophilic that is why there is no change in their growth because they require very small amount of oxygen.
C - they are aerotolerant anaerobes. that is why we can grow in the presence of oxygen but mainly these are anaerobic bacteria.
D - these are obligated anaerobic bacteria that is why no growth in the high concentration of oxygen as well as in low concentration.
