Question

munda and the milkman as a point of departure to discuss a real example 16.a. Use Sig of brain reorganization, with discussion of the implications for assigning behavioral or cognitive function (for us, learning and memory but other functions too) to a particular brain system. 16.b. Generalize from this to other ways to identify biology with function, e.g. gene knockout, drug that destroys a single neurotransmitter system, chemical disruption of a cell signaling pathway, etc. 16.c. Apply this logic to discuss a topic from another Bio class. E.g., developmental biology, plant speciation, cancer, genetics,...

Explanation / Answer

Answer a)

Brain reorganization generally indicates the rearrangemnet of all the connections and signalling pathways inside a brain after a damaging episode, like for example stroke. Here no information is given about who or what is Sigmunda and Milkman is, but based upon liturature, the brain reorganizes, or recovers itself in a very fascinating manner.

The term neuroplasticity, means that the brain is not plastic, but it contains a nueronal capacity to regularly change itself throuhout life. This nueroplasticity of the brain helps it to reorganize after a stroke. Cross-sectional studies have shown that the plasticity changes are crucial for behavioral and expertise development. The amount of gray matter in different areas and sections of the brain leads to expertise in different areas of work. For example a keyboard player have more gray matter distributed along its motor, auditory and visual-spatial regions compared to non-keybord players which will have a different kind of distribution of gray matter.

This means that assinging different practices and behaviours leads to changes in the brain in terms of gray matter distribution. As the person learns new behaviours, the amount of gray matter changes in every section and the brain itself changes from time to time. Funcional neuroplasticity occurs not only in the motor neurons, but also in the cognitive domains to help one individual to get a expertise in that behaviour or feild. For a person to become expert in that feild the functional plasticity of the motor area have to be changed involved in that function.
