microclimates and microenvironments are important for some of the climate-sensitive species. microclimates are the small areas or restricted areas, especially when this differs from the climate of the surrounding area. cave, garden beds and shady rock sides are best examples of microclimate/microenvironment regions.

anthropogenic activities cause severe climate change, this climate change already affected community structures and range of many taxa.so, these microclimate or microenvironmental regions can allow a climate sensitive species to persist in habitat that appears unsuitable by the bioclimatic envelope approach.

Example: American pikas

American pikas are small mammalian herbivores, distributed in the high elevations mountains of western North America. usually, they require short, cool summers and winters with extended snowpack.they are extremely sensitive to high ambient temperatures and they do not hibernate during the winter. during unfavourable conditions, they live outside of rockslides and boulder fields that provide these suitable microclimates.
