2. The single-celled amoeba has semi-permeable membrane and allows the movement of the material in and out of the cell. Now as per the question the cell having an internal solute concentration of 5mM moves to an area of solute concentration of 1mM.Thus, the cell is in a hypotonic solution where the solute concentration is less. But as the solute size is too big to move across the membrane, so the solvent moves into the cell due to low osmotic pressure(it is the minimum pressure required to prevent the movement of solvent through a semipermeable membrane) causing the cell to swell up.
