Question
Connect the function generator output to the input of the slope and turn the voltage (amplitude) knob on the generator so the amplitude is so maximum (usually between 9 v). The capacitor we will use later in the lab is rated at 16 V max, so we want the amplitude to the under that amount but not so small that a diode won't turn on (which happens at about.5 v). Leave it at this setting for the rest of the lab. Set the frequency to 60 Hz sine wave. Adjust the knobs on the scope until you get an easy to measure waveform and sketch the pattern you see below.. Measure the period of the wave and from that calculate the frequency of the wave and record your result. Is it close to the frequency the knob is set to on the function generator? Also measure the amplitude of the waveform (again, it should be between 9 v and 11 v.) Label the amplitude and period on your sketch.Explanation / Answer
NO OF HORIZONTAL DIVISIONS/ ONE TIME PERIOD=3.3
HORIZONTAL SCALE=5 MILLI SECONDS
TIME PERIOD=3.3×0.005=16.5 MILLI SECONDS
FREQUENCY=1/TIME PERIOD=60.61 HZ
NO OF VERTICAL DIVISIONS/VPP=4.1
VERTICAL SCALE=5 VOLTS
AMPLITUDE=VPP/2=4.1×5/2=10.25 VOLTS
