Question
The experiment examines the electric field on the surface of plates covered uniformly with low-conducting coating. Each plate has imbedded over the coating a pair of high conducting shapes (electrodes). You will experiment with three configurations: two circles, a circle and a segment, and two parallel segments. Give a list of the three configurations in descending order of electric field uniformity in the area between the electrodes, i.e. first is the configuration with most uniform electric field, last is the one with least uniform electric field.
When mapping the equipotentials on the plates with different electrode configurations you may find that some have significant areas with uniform distribution of the equipotential lines. If the distance between such lines is 0.5 cm, what is the electric field there (in units SI)? Assume the applied potential difference between the electrodes is as recommended in the manual
Explanation / Answer
The formula of potential is given as
V = E.d
E = V / d
distance is given
As the value of electric field is found by using potential . Distance between two lines is given which is to determine the potential differece accross two lines. The value of potential at each line is given then we can find the value of E by the above given formula.
