Question
This is Physic lab. This just asks for an apporitate answer. There is no math being done here.
Question:
The goal of this lab is to explore simple harmonic motion by observing a mass-spring system and the relationships between spring constant, mass, and frequency or period of oscillation. If you have a known mass suspended vertically from a spring, and you have means of measuring distance and time information, what are some ways you could measure the unknown spring constant of the spring? State at least two ways here, with equations to support your approach.
Explanation / Answer
Since mass M is known.
Measure time for 1 oscillation
Let this time be T.
use formula:
Period of oscillation of spring ,
T =2*PI*sqrt (M/K)
Pi = 22/7
you know T and M.
So you can calculate K
ANother method can be by using energy
E = 0.5*K*A^2
A is amplitude which can be measured.
