Question

population or the conduction and Valence bands? Based on this value, is it a good conductor? What wavelength of light would be necessary to make it a good conductor? 6. lfatomic and molecular systems are supposed to be in the ground state, why do semiconductors (such as polymers and silicon have electrons in the higher energy bands? 7. used on a surface of sodium. The potential energy between the tip and surface is 8 ev at a distance of 0.25 nm. What bias voltage is necessary to keep the probability of tunneling at least 10%? Since sodium has a radius of 0.180 nm, the interface (crevasse) between two adjoining atoms could be another 0.180 nm away from the STM tip. Will the probability of tunneling still be above 1% so that a image can be STM tip miconductorsAnd....doc Links Desktop os (C) Address e http://saplinglearning.com/

Explanation / Answer

There are covalents bond present between the molecules of semiconductors which is somehow a weak bond.
So at room temperature the molecules gain enough thermal thermal energy which is sufficient to break the covalent bond and the free electron of bond take that thermal energy and goes in higher energy band.
So the semiconductors behave as insulator at absolute 0 K temperature & very good conductor at higher temperature.
