Wherever UV is strong the skin is dark in colour like it s near the equator or high altitudes,the skin of the people at the poles are almost lighter in colour that suggests the variation in the human melanin production,there is a relationbetween the intensity of ultra violet radiation and skin pigmentation,early man evolved near the equator who is darker in colour,darkly coloured skin is highly protective under the UV radiation,by the production of melanin int he body which is a natural sunscreen,it is produced from the melanocytes it takes 2 basic forms, eumelanin hich gives black to brown colour,pheomelanin which gives reddish brown colour,it protects against the damage to the DNA and breakdown of folate,which helps in the cell production and reproduction in the body.The type and amount of melanin determines wheather a person will be more or less protected from the sun exposure,when sun strikes the body the rhodopsin pigment stimulates the production of melanin

The UV region covers the wavelength range 100-400 nm and is divided into three bands

UVA (315-400 nm)

UVB (280-315 nm)

UVC (100-280 nm)

There are UVA ,UVB,UVC when coming to the northren hemisphere UVB & UVC are almost disapperaing,UVB causes the productionof vitamin D in the body,the people inhabited to the northren area will not have the potential to produce vitamin D,as the humans dispersed from the equator they lost their pigmentation there is the natural selection for the evolution of lightly pigmented skin which causes deleterious health consequences to the people,which causes the folate breakdown, in the dark people living in the higher latitudes occurs the deficiency of vitamin D due to the lack of UVB radiation which effects the bones,immune system & mental health.
