Question
This lab is on coackroaches and it has two parts to the question.
The digestive system of the cockroach is specialized. Please match each of the portions of the gut below to the appropriate description.
crop --------------------------------------site of nutrient absorption
rectum -----------------------------------foregut
pharynx-----------------------has impermeable cuticular lining prohibiting nutrient absorption
proventriculis ---------------------------midgut
Hindgut ----------------------------------Malphigian tubules
Match the terms on the left side to the terms on the right side.
1 terms matches with 1 term. I tried doing this, but a lot of the terms kind of contradict themselves. Here is the part in my lab that talks about it: "The three divisions of the coackroach digestive tract are: the foregut, which included the crop and proventriculus, midgut, which includes the section below the proventriculus up to the caeca, and the hindgut, which includes the Malpighian tubules and the rectum. The products of digestion are absorbed in the midgut, especially in the more anterior parts including the caeca. Absorption also occurs in the hindgut, especially in the rectum, but there is no evidence of absorption from the foregut, which has an impermeable cuticular lining.
Then it wants to know: Which of the following is true of digestive systems?
a. They are only found in mammals.
b. They all help an organism break down large organic molecules in simpler monomers.
c. They prevent body cells from absorbing nutrients.
d. They must occur inside an organism.
Explanation / Answer
crop ----- foregut rectum ---- site of absortion pharanyx ---- has impermiable cuticular lining that prohibits nutrient absortion proventriculus --- midgut hindgut --- malpighian tubes For this matching part it is all in the reading you just have had to read carefully. Try reading again and if you still need help i can explain why. a. false b and c i dont really know sorry d. true
