Question
THE CHART AT THE RIGHT SHOWS THAT THERE IS A: Length= 260 and linking number= 26
I believe that would mean the twist is 25 from 260/10.4=25 which would then mean the writhe is +1 from L=T+W
6a. Use the chart at right to find the length and linking number of a circular molecule of DNA. If this molecule were allowed to super- coil into its most favored state, what would be the twist? b. Next calculate the writhe and draw what the molecule would loolk like. (see your notes for help on this). Draw your molecule again as it would be after you nick the backbone, unwrap the double helix 3 times, and then seal it up again. c.Explanation / Answer
c) writhe can be positive or negative, unwinding leads to negative writhe. unwrapping the DNA is negative supercoiling which would decrease writhe. if writhe was +1 now it would be -2
