How far did the dye travel in the celery which was submerged in water for 15 minutes? How far did it travel in the piece which was air-dried for 15.minutes? 2 in which celery stalk was the water column broken?

Explanation / Answer

1. we can observe the movement in the submerged and in dry there is no movement, due to the breaking of the water column. In submerged celery, dye moves upward as transpiration takes place from the leaves and at the tip we see the coloured dots, that is the coloured dye water moved up, to the plant tips from the xylem.

2. The dried celery has broken water column out. This happened because air is present inside the stem that's why water do not moved throughout the celery piece.
