Question
Consider a projectile which strikes a target as shown below. Ignore all forces except gravity. Point A refers to a point just beyond the muzzle of the cannon, B refers to the highest point in the trajectory and C refers to a point just before landing on the cliff. The acceleration at B is ____ the acceleration at C.
Choices = (Greater then, Less then, equal to)
The magnitude of the vertical component of the velocity at A is ____ the magnitude of the vertical component of the velocity at C
Choices = (Greater then, Less then, equal to)
Thank you for all your help.
Explanation / Answer
The acceleration at B is equal to the acceleration at C.
At both point s the only force acting on the projectile is mg and thus the accelaration is g
The magnitude of the vertical component of the velocity at A is equal to the magnitude of the vertical component of the velocity at C.
Since at A and C the projectile is at same height. all the energy is in kinetic form and thus by energy conservation the magnitude of velocity at both the points are same.
