the distance to the "Andromeda Galaxy is estimated at aboout 2 x 10^6 light years. A light year is the distance traveled by light in one year; if the speed of light is 3 x 10^8 m/s, about how far is it from our galaxy to Andromeda? 1 year - 3.15 x 10^7 s

the mass of thw sun is 2.0 x 1030 kg, and the mass of a gydrogen atom is 1.67 x 10-27 kg. if we assume that the sun is mostl composed on hydrogen, how many are there in the sun?

If point A is located at coordinates 95,3) and point B is located at coordinates (-3,9), what is the distance from A to B if the units of the oordinateds system are meters

a railroad train travels forward along a straight track at 80.0 m/s for 1000m and then travels at 50.0 m/s for the ext 1000m. wht is the average velocity

Explanation / Answer

(1) Water flows into a swimming pool at the rate = 8.0 gal/min                = 8.0 x 231 x (1/12)3 ft^3/min                =    1.0694 ft^3/min so, volume flow rate ,dV/dt = 1.0694 ft^3/min (since ,1 gallon = 231 cubic inches
   1 inch = 1/12 ft ) Volume of pool , V =16 ft x 32 ft x 8.0 ft
                             = 4096 ft^3 time require to fill the pool , t = Volume / volume flow rate    = 4096 ft^3 /1.0694 ft^3/min    = 3830.18 min (up to 6 sig. fig)
