b: EM induction La Five loops are formed of copper wire of the same cross- sectio height as the others but is longer. At the instant shown, all B the loops are moving at the same speed in the directions lo O indicated PHY 221 O There is a uniform magnetic field pointing out of the page in Region I, in Region II there is no magnetic field. Ignore any interactions between the loops. Through which loops, if any, is the magnetic flux changing? Explain. 1. 4. lo Region I Region II For each loop that has an induced current, determine whether the induced current is clockwise or counterclockwise around the loop. Clearly indicate your answers on the diagram at right. Explain how you can use Faraday's law to support your answers. 2.Explanation / Answer
1.
In loops 1, 4 and 5, the magnetic flux is changing. In case of loop 2, the flux is not changing since both the magnetic field and the enclosed area are not changing. The similar thing happens in case of loop 3.
2.
In case of loop 1, the flux is decreasing, so the induced current would be in the anticlockwise direction(Lenz's law).
In cases of loop 3 and loop 4, the flux is increasing, so the induced current would be in the clockwise direction(Lenz's law).
