Its initial vertical speed is 8.80 m/s. A short time later, it hits the ground. Calculate the total work done by the force of gravity during that time Careful with your distance. The force of gravity does the work. Work can be positive or negative. Keep in mind that conservative systems are path-independent, i.e., they only depend upon their initial and final states Submit AnswerIncorrect. Tries 3/12 Previous Tries This discussion is closed. Explanation / Answer

Accoridng to the given problem,

From the problem,

We need work for the ball as it travels up , down the the intial position and finally reach to ground.

So, the Work is negative while going up and negative while comming down as gravitation always acts downward.

So The work done by gravity till the ball reaches 2.20m above the ground is = 0J as ditace reamins same but force changes.

Therefore the net work done on ball is ,

W = mgh

= 0.201*9.81*2.20

= 4.34 J.

I hope you understood the problem, If yes rate me!! or else comment for a better solution.
