Question

I can't figure out how to solve this, it says the answer is 0.96

2 points) Trivia: In electronics, a vacuum tube (aka electron tube) is a device controlling electric current through a vacuum in a sealed container. Before invention of semiconductor electronic elements all electronic devices (including TV's, computers, audio amplifiers, critical military and space equipment) were based on vacuum tubes. Even today highly critical devices (eg. tube amplifiers for audiophiles) are still based on vacuum tubes. A simple tube contains only two elements; current can only flow in one direction through the device between the two electrodes, as electrons emitted by the hot cathode (negative electrode) travel through the tube and are collected by the anode (positive electrode). Problem: In a particular vacuum tube electrons hit the anode at a rate of6.0 × 1012 electrons per second. What is the current in this system? Express your answer as a positive number in HA.

Explanation / Answer

Electricity is rate of flow of charge =dq/dt

each electron carries 1.6*10^-19 C of charge

In 1 second 6*10^12 electrons carry 6*10^12 * 1.6*10^-19 =9.6*10^-7 A = 0.96*10^-6 A = 0.96 micro amperes
