Question

?Select the correct letter for the answer. A sphere of mass of m = 1.50 kg is first placed directly on the plate of an electronic scale. The scale shows 14.71 N as the weight of the object. (See left figure.) A large beaker containing a liquid with a density of ?liquid = 601 kg/m3 is then placed on the scale and the scale is tared (i.e. zeroed to this weight as a reference point, it has a reading of zero with the beaker on the scale). The sphere, hung by a thin string, is lowered into the liquid and submerges below the surface. (See right figure.) The scale reads 1.56 N with the sphere not touching the beaker. Calculate the density of the sphere. (in kg/m^3)

A: 3.08×10^3 B: 3.48×10^3 C: 3.93×10^3 D: 4.44×10^3 E: 5.02×10^3 F: 5.67×10^3 G: 6.41×10^3 H: 7.24×10^3

Explanation / Answer

We are given m = 1.50 kg

please note that we are given value of buoyant force as 1.56 N

we know, Buoyant force, Fb = rholiquid * V*g

V = 1.56 / 601*9.8

V = 2.6486E-4 m3

so density = mass / volume

density = 1.50 / 2.6486E-4

density = 5.66E3 kg/m3 option F seems the closest
