Question

Need help converting Frequency (Hz) * Lambda (m) to = Vcalculated (m/s)

This is for my physics lab, It should be pretty simple, but I am not sure how to convert the numbers to get the correct calculations. Please help and show work as well

Explanation / Answer

The relation between wavelength and speed of sound is

v = f lamda

for f = 1000 Hz

v= 1000(34.62) = 34620 m/s

for 950 Hz

v = 950(36.64) = 34808 m/s

for f= 900 Hz

v= 900(37.86) = 34074 m/s

for f= 850 Hz

v = 850(40.28) = 34238 m/s

for f= 800Hz

v= 800 Hz ( 42.26) = 33808 m/s

v_avg =  34620 m/s+ 34808 m/s+34074 m/s+34238 m/s+33808 m/s/5 = 34309.6 m/s

speed sound in air at temperature T is

v= 331 m/s + 0.6 T

= 331 m/s + 0.6(21)

= 343.6 m/s
