Question

A beam consisting of five types of ions labeled A, B, C, D, and E enters a region that contains a
uniform magnetic field as shown in the figure below. The magnetic field is perpendicularly into
to the paper. All ions in the beam travel with the same speed. The table below gives the masses.

The answer is B but I am not sure how they got that answer.

2) A beam consisting of five types of ions labeled A, B, C, D, and E enters a region that containsa uniform magnetic field as shown in the figure below. The magnetic field is perpendicularly into to the paper. All ions in the beam travel with the same speed. The table below gives the masses and charges of the ions. When a uniform magnetic field of 0.02 T is applied at an angle of 30° to the x-axis to a 3.0-m segment of the wire, what is the direction and the magnitude of the magnetic force acting on the segment of wire? 3. 30 t of the naper

Explanation / Answer

2) radius of circular path (r) = mv/qB

If charge is positive, force will be towards left from the entering position and if charge is negative then force will be towards right from the entering position.

Since all have been projected with the same speed so radius will be proportional to the ratio (m/q)

So for A (m/q) = 3

for B (m/q) = 2

for C (m/q) = 6

for D (m/q) = 3 (-ve charge)

for E (m/q) = 2 (-ve charge)

So according to radius and (m/q) ratio

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 will correspond to C, A, B, E, D
