Find the magnification. (Enter 0 in the q and M fields it exists.) (a) 14.0 cm cm Select all that apply to part (a) real

Explanation / Answer

We can use the formula d' = d(n2/n1) to find the apparent depth of the pool.

Here,

d' is the apparent depth

d is the actual depth

n2 is the refractive index of air(in this case)

n1 is the refractive index of water(in this case)

Given: d = 3 m and we know n2 = 1 and n1 = 1.33

Solution:

a). d' = 3*(1/1.33)

d' = 2.255 m

b) when pool is filled half way with water

d = 1.5m

d' = 1.5 (1/1.33)

d' = 1.1278 mm a seen from the half filled level.

From the ground level, it will seem d' = 1.1278 +1.5 = 2.6278 m
