Question

Problem6 A very long solenoid with a circular cross section and radius r1 2.20 centimeters with n,- 240.turns/cm lies inside a short coil of radius r2- 4.40 centimeters and Nc 26 turns outer coil solenoid If the current in the solenoid is ramped at a constant rate from zero to I-1.50 Amperes over a time interval of 61.0 milliseconds, what is the magnitude of the emf in the outer coil while the current in the solenoid is changing? Note that the B = ?0*n*l where "n" is the number of turns per unit length.

Explanation / Answer

A = pi r2 = pi * 0.0222 = 1.522 * 10-3 m2

N = 26 turns

M = mu0 n N A = 4 pi * 10-7 * (240 / 10-2) * 26 * 1.522 * 10-3

M = 1.19 * 10-3 H

dI/dt = 1.5 / 61 * 10-3 = 24.59 A/s

E = M * dI/dt = 1.19 * 10-3 * 24.59

= 0.0293 V = 29.3 mV
